A Bellefonte Ballad
Welcome to the first installment of my new series: AJ’s Aftermath. Over the next several weeks I will releasing original photos, videos, and anecdotes from my live performances. Up first we have my cover of Nights In White Satin from The Moody Blues. This is the first time I played this song, and all things considered I’m fairly happy with my performance. Those pesky B7 chords, though.
Truth be told I was a little anxious being onstage. I think that became fairly obvious to me as I watched the tape, I could see I was a little fidgety in between songs. This was my first show at an actual music venue since making the switch from drummer to singer songwriter. With any live performance, things may go awry. I was more focused on having a plan in place for every foreseeable issue rather than being in the moment. But once I started playing this song I allowed myself to get lost in the moment, to feel each strum reverberate off the walls of the venue.
I love this song, and getting lost in the moment is very easy with this tune. I learned this cover fairly quickly, sometimes I’ll practice a song over and over and still just can’t seem to get it right. But Nights In White Satin came together so effortlessly. Each chord is perfectly arranged, the vocals meld with the music so beautifully, it’s a melodical masterpiece. A true gem of a song. Now if only I could write a song like that…
For a future installment, I will release an updated cover of this song with audio recorded directly from the mixer. But in the meantime, please enjoy this magnum opus from The Moody Blues.
